Magnetic Nail Polish

Want to get patterned nails but lazy to do it yourself? How about using a magnet to do it for you?

Magnetic nail polish

I wrote about this newest nail polish trend HERE whereby a magnet is used to gravitate the iron powder in the nail polish to your desired pattern.

So, I bought this magnetic nail polish from SaSa and tried it myself!!

Naga Magnetic Nail Polish in Green

I chose my desired pattern magnet from a few other patterns.

All you have to do is put one coat of nail polish and quickly put the magnet on top of your nail and wait for like 10 seconds for the magnet to work its magic! Repeat on all fingers. That's all!

The final effect!

It's super easy. Just try not to touch the magnet to your nails and you don't even need to put a top coat because it's already shiny and thick as it is =))

Pop of colours for Fall/Winter 2012 trends

The runway seems to have a pop of colours for the Fall/Winter 2012 collection. This is a move from the pastel hues of the Spring/Summer collection.

The colours can range from deep purple, magenta, navy blue to tangerine orange, neon yellow and fluorescent green like some of these collections below show:

Primark

Diane Von Furstenberg

John Galliano

Acne

Lanvin

I love colours and I'm not that all-black ensemble kind of girl. I can never pull off all-black. Hence, this Fall/Winter is the time to bring out all the colours you have hidden in the wardrobe.

Happy mixing and matching =)

St Anne's

St Anne's quite a popular feast day among Catholics. She is the grandmother of Jesus and a patron saint of housewives, grandparents and mothers. I wrote how St Anne became an important feast day HERE

This year, again we went to St Anne's church in Port Klang to celebrate her feast day.

Candles were lit to celebrate the feast of St Anne's

I just want to share about something the priest said in his sermon. He was saying that God is everywhere in our daily lives. God is even present in football! Some of you might have heard about this Bolton footballer, Fabrice Muamba who collapsed unconscious on the pitch during an FA cup match back in March 2012.

His heart stopped for a whole 78 minutes(!!) and it took the paramedics 15 defibrillator shocks to get his heart started again. If you must know, if your heart stopped beating for 3 minutes, you are declared brain dead and even if you survived after, you would have suffered brain damage. But he is fine now! Muamba believed his survival was thanks to his prayer to God when he asked God for protection before the match.

Muamba, walking proof of the power of prayers. Here seen with his doctors.

So, yes, God is always working his miracles and he is everywhere. You just need to have faith =)

Also, I learnt about the miracle of Mother Velankanni that happened in Velankanni Church many years ago. She is our lady of health and she appeared to a person one day and told him, "Don't be afraid, have faith and listen to me. I am coming to this world. Spread this message." He spreaded the message and received blessings. Today, her feast day draws more than a million and a half pilgrims and hundreds of miraculous cures are reported every year.

Many people have been healed by the power of Our Lady of Health. If you believe and pray, miracles will happen in your life also. Then circulate the experience in Her name.
Lesson learnt: Have faith and never give up!

Mother Velankanni, Our Lady Of Health, pray for us.

London Olympics 2012

The London Olympics will begin from today, 27th July 2012! The opening ceremony will be hours from now and it will end on August 12th.

Are you excited? I love seeing games and it's not everyday where you can see gymnastics, synchronised swimming, diving, equestrian, etc on TV. So yes, these are the sports that I'm looking forward to watch apart from the usual badminton and football.

The Malaysian contingent departing to London!

But it's quite hard to catch the games because of the time difference between Malaysia and London and that would mean the repeat of EURO 2012 wee hours if you want to watch the games live =( (Why always like that one??!!)

But anyway, all the best to the Malaysian team and hopefully they'll bring back many gold medals for our country.

The Dark Knight Rises

This movie is legen-wait for it-dary!! Yes, I just used Barney Stinson's infamous line!! Because it's 2012's Must-Watch movie!!!

If you don't watch any movie this year, just watch the latest Batman movie. Because so far, all the movie I've seen in the cinema pretty much sucked, but this one blew my mind away! So much so, I didn't even realise 2 hours 40 minutes had passed!

I absolutely loved The Dark Knight and I thought no movie could beat the second movie in the trilogy but boy was I wrong! Christopher Nolan, the director, outdid himself! The whole cast did in this last movie of the trilogy!

I loved the addition of another superhero-in, Catwoman, who is sexy, flirty, sultry and damn! she can kick some ass! Anne Hathaway was rightly casted for this role!

One thing in Batman movies are that, the villains are pretty much very strong and can overpower Batman. Joker won in the second movie and Batman was made the scapegoat for Harvey Dent's murder. This movie, Bane, was huge physically and definitely fight better than Batman.

But well, you've got to see the movie to see how it ended. Batman is the only superhero without super powers but he has awesome vehicles and gadgets and the most important, determination! Also, he has accomplices! Which is really great and there's even an introduction to one of them at the end. But unfortunately, the trilogy ends here =((

Bane, the villain looks scary with that mask!

Have you guessed who's the man behind the mask? I was trying to guess the entire time in the movie. Have you seen the movie This Means War?

It's Tom Hardy!!

Tom Hardy was the guy who played alongside Chris Pine in that movie! He was initially criticised for being to small to play Bane. But, my goodness, he bulked up to be so muscular and huge for the role!!

This is what a Blockbuster should be! Epic!

My rating: 4 and a half stars!

Christian Bale visits shooting victims

Now, everyone say awwww....

Batman star, Christian Bale recently visited victims of the tragic Aurora shooting of the Colorado theater which was showing, 'The Dark Knight Rises'. He came as a personal act and was not representing the movie studio.

With his wife, Sibi Blazic

There was actually an online campaign going on urging Bale to visit the survivors of the shooting. I guess that did not fall into deaf ears.

It was really sweet of him to take the time and visit them. He definitely made their day after what they had been through.

Now, that's a true superhero!

P1 MiFi MF230 Personal 4G Modem

Packet One Networks(Malaysia) Sdn Bhd or most fondly known as P1 recently launched its new MiFi MF230 in conjunction with 'The Dark Knight Rises' movie blockbuster. What convenient timing, I must say! A great blockbuster with an even better 4G Modem!

You must be wondering, what is a Mifi? Well, MiFi means my personal WiFi. It is a modem best suited for those who appreciate an affordable broadband connection for all their WiFi-enabled devices while on the go.

Which MiFi you ask? Well, definitely the P1's MiFi MF230! The MF230 Personal Hotspot Modem is a portable 4G modem with built-in rechargeable battery. It is a modem which can serve broadband connection to six devices altogether, which include five via WiFi and one via USB port.

P1 MiFi MF230 modem

I for one am a very heavy internet user. If I'm at home, I spend most of my time on the computer blogging, social networking, etc If I'm outside, I'm itching on my phone for 3G internet and if I have a laptop with me, that's it, I'm hooked! So, it's just so convenient to have a portable modem which is so light(62 grams to be exact) to carry around with me and have my own personal hotspot.

Now, we have different internet plans for our home use, office use and for our phones(worst if we have more than one phone!) Further, to have so many internet plans at one time is pricey and paying more bills on top of your other utility bills makes it such an inconvenience. So, with the ToGo plans which are the new postpaid Broadband On- The- Go plans by P1, offers not only best value for money, but also discounts!! With my WiFi you can use just one plan whether you're at home, working in the office or outside meeting people. Just bring alone your pocket-size modem! It's that easy.

Just pay RM100 for an upfront one-off payment for the modem and then with a monthly fee of just RM39 for the ToGo plan, you can have access to your MiFi modem and start surfing internet on the go! You can have the option to upgrade to unlimited 4G speed and up to 10GB usage quota for only RM1.30 per day! This is by far the cheapest plan yet!

ToGo plans

On top of that, as part of the campaign, any P1 MiFi with plan purchase comes with exclusive 'The Dark Knight Rises' merchandise for a limited time while stocks last.

Cool merchandise consisting of T-shirt, cap and a poster!

Caught your eyes already? So, why not check out what P1 MiFi MF230 has to offer by visiting their site and start having your own personal WiFi today!

Evian

I'm sure many of you have heard about Evian water, a French brand mineral water.

It's like one of the most expensive mineral water around. This is actually just a random post about Evian because I got this collectible Evian water and wanted to share with you guys.

It's from the goodie bag from Guardian Customers' Choice Award

House Courreges design!

Did you know that Evian has been partnering with famed designers since 2007 to come out with limited edition bottles? It's like a collector's item, due to it's beautiful glass bottle designs!

Limited edition bottles. L-R: 2007-2011

The first partnership was with designer Christian Lacroix in 2007 with a chic frosted design. Then the blue design was by Jean Paul Gaultier. In 2009, they partnered with Paul Smith for a more colourful design. I personally favour the Issey Miyake flower design in 2010. Lastly, the 2011 partnership with House Courreges is the one that I got.

Before 2007, Evian has come out with other shaped bottles as well.

The Millennium limited edition glass bottles.

2005-2007 Memorial Collection Evian bottles. It is shaped like a mountain, a symbol of the source of Evian which is at the top of the Alps.

Beautiful right all these limited edition glass bottles? Well, back to the latest collector's item by House Courreges.

Simple yet gorgeous!

If you can read the above description, it says that this bottle is made from 100% recyclable materials and for the first time ever, is printed using organic ink. That makes this newest Evian limited edition all the more special and environmentally friendly *smiles*

I didn't know about all these until I read more on Evian because I was so intrigued by this limited edition bottle! It's fashion meets water...really unique!

Also, it tastes, well, like mineral water(how else can it taste like?!) but different from normal boiled water or other kinds of mineral water. It actually tastes fresh!

And, if you visit their website, these T-shirts which I have seen getting viral on Facebook, is from Evian!

Humour T-shirts!

Well, didn't know they make T-shirts as well *laughs*

So, how bout that? Didn't think you knew much about Evian, right? Well, now you do =p

The Dulang Washer book

This is the first local storybook I have read ever since I stepped foot out of high school >.< Yes, sad to say but that's the truth -.-

In high school, we were forced to read books like Bukit Kepong, Meniti Kaca, etc for BM literature. But The Dulang Washer, although set in a local vicinity with local characters, it was in English.

It was written by Paul Callan, an Irishman who married a Malaysian wife and have stayed in Malaysia for the last 5 years. This is his first novel published by MPH.

Paul Callan visited my mom's workplace to promote his book and she received a complimentary one from him and kindly passed it to me. Hence, I've got a signed copy of his book.

This book portrays a fictitious story with a real background story of the hardship of tin miners in the 19th century in the area of Kinta Valley, Perak. This also follows a love story between Aisha, the dulang washer and the man who she will marry later. It is quite a fascinating read because although I live in Malaysia, my knowledge about that time of the history is nil. Well, my knowledge about any history is nil anyway -.-

Paul researched quite a lot for this book and travels regularly to Perak for two years, at the same time researched in the National Library for months about the local culture and the Chinese and Indian immigrants. Hence, I would applaud him, as a foreigner depicting what happened years ago in the tin mining industry. It's like a foreigner teaching Malaysians their own history LOL

The hardship of the immigrants working in Malaysia to send money back, but betrayed by the mine's proprietor due to greed, the hardships of the dulang washerwomen working hard to support their families and the miner's addiction to opium and whores are all very real yet quite saddening.

The only thing that irks me is that Paul loves to describe things to a T! When he describes a scenery, he could go on forever on the beauty of it. For example: "the sun was now up at its fiercest, like a furnace with its embers at their dazzling peak. Against a pandemonium of monkey sounds, chirping and whistling, buzzing and humming, the mine announced its presence with the scraping and banging of picks and shovels..." and it goes on till half a page.

Hats off to his vocabulary because I, for one, tend to describe things at a maximum of three words (Awesome picturesque scenery!) that's all, hence, I cannot appreciate authors who goes on and on describing all the little things of a scenery/thing/person.

But still, for a first time novelist, I really appreciate his effort. In addition, since he wanted to portray what really happened, he did use many Hakka words(with translation of course!) because most miners were Hakkas. He also managed to incorporate some Cantonese, Malays and Tamil words as well!

Further, The Dulang Washer was nominated by Popular Books for the Popular Readers' Choice Awards 2012 under the Fiction Category. Callan was also chosen by Popular as Author for the month of May 2012.

At the launch of his book with Dr. Ng Yen Yen.

He will be releasing his second book soon!
